We have finally made it to New York. Our house is not ready to move into yet, so we are staying with the second year resident and their family(the Summers). We hope to move in this weekend. That is if we have anything to move.
We have had many many difficulties with moving companies. The first gave us a great quote and made the move sound great with all their perks. Then they called us two days before our pick up date saying the truck had broken down in CA and they couldn't make our pick up, unless we forked out 700 more dollars. We said we'd wait for the original truck to be fixed. Then they called the day after original pick up date and said the truck is out of commission and we would still have to pay more for them to come with the other truck. So we compare Budget and Uhaul found out how much that would be, but I still didn't want to do that because it was going to be a long drive by myself with the kids. So I called a few other companies for some last minute quotes for the next day or two. We found a comparable rate, took it. They really reassured us of the rate and their service. So we thought all was going to work out. Then they came to pick up our stuff and said it was going to be almost twice as much as the price we signed for. We tried to fight it and get them to work with us, because we were already in the middle of Nebraska. Didn't work and we had to pay or they would not take our stuff and we'd be out of the big deposit we already paid. Now we are in New York waiting for a call of when our stuff will arrive, but nothing. So I finally called to see where our truck was, and they told me it was still in Denver!! AHH! Apparently instead of a drop off date by July 2nd they have July 20th! So I have no idea when we will be getting our expensive things.
On a happier note, New York is beautiful! We are living in a big hilly area surrounded by huge green trees and bushes with many winding roads. It reminds us of Washington and parts of California. I know I will be getting lost a lot! There are lots of little towns surrounding Kingston(where the hospital and our house is), but Kingston is a bigger town with a Walmart, Target, Kohls, grocery stores and restaurants, yet all surrounded and hidden by hills and trees. We live close to the hospital and clinics that Josh will be working at. Not a ton of driving distance this time around which will be nice.
The girls are soooooo HAPPY to be out of the car! They did well and survived! The drive was extra super long because of all the traffic we hit in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Seriously everything is under construction and we were sitting ducks many times. They have made new friends with the Summers kids and have been playing outside a lot!
